Never put much faith in higher education...up until the 60's the majority got by with a High School diploma...
My dad was a Construction superintendent in Chicago with a 8th grade education...a trade learned from his father that was a contractor. His father was also a contractor and also designed, built and patented the started clutch used in early cars with almost zero formal education.
Many were self educated, as without all the modern convinces. In their spare time they read and educated themselves...
