'Poked China in the Eye' < >
Lt. Col. Tony Shaffer [Ret.] said the latest North Korean missile test appeared to be partially meant to "poke [China] in the eye."
Shaffer said a Chinese diplomat was reportedly recently dispatched to Pyongyang among rising tensions between the Kim regime and the United States.
He said the missile test occurred very shortly after the diplomat apparently returned to Beijing.
Shaffer and Martha MacCallum's panel also discussed how the missile was likely meant to draw the attention of Washington, since it appeared to go ten times higher than the International Space Station.
A missile that powerful could have a chance to reach Hawaii or the Lower 48.
"We need to leverage the Chinese," Shaffer said in light of the slight.
China is a key trading partner with North Korea while simultaneously being a key American ally and partner.
