US Global Airways moves toward Stewart passenger service
STEWART AIRPORT – Start up airline US Global Airways hopes to “resolve delays in closing with Songbird” so that it can begin passenger service from Stewart International Airport.
The new airline, which hopes to provide regularly scheduled service to several overseas destinations from the Newburgh area airport, is working on purchasing Songbird Airways, which holds an FAA operating permit and owns a passenger jet. The purchase of Songbird would pave the way for US Global to begin its own service.
“We are eager to resolve the delays in closing with Songbird and remain as dedicated as ever to moving beyond this chapter of our pre-revenue business in order to rapidly proceed toward scheduled passenger flights,” airline Chairman, President and CEO Anthony Koulouris wrote in a November 14 letter to US Global shareholders.
The Songbird closing could come soon, said Stewart Airport Manager Ed Harrison.
“They are very optimistic about closing that soon so they can start launching their destinations and make their announcements to the world. They expect to announce the closing over the next week or two,” Harrison said. “They are talking about Caribbean charters this winter.”
Koulouris said as they complete fiscal year audits, they are reaching out to travel agencies, public relations and marketing firms “to create a powerful and compelling branding campaign leading up to our initial flights.”
