What is the Quantum Dot Display
Release time:2017-11-09
Quantum dots, general speaking, are tiny semiconductor crystals consisting of a few atoms.
Scientific experiments prove that quantum dots can emit light after absorbing energy. By controlling their sizes, they can give off light of different colors. Applications of
quantum dots technology in display products are mainly divided into two major categories: Active Matrix Quantum-dot Light Emitting Diode (AMQLED) and quantum dot backlight. AMQLED is a self-luminous display technology without a backlight source. Its light-emitting mechanism is similar to that of an incandescent lamp. Quantum dots can give out light by injecting current. The display effect is similar to that of Active-Matrix Organic LED (AMOLED). These two display devices are similar in structure, but their light sources are different. Organic materials are replaced by inorganic quantum dots. AMQLED, featuring high efficiency, energy saving, long service life, and more pure bright color , is the next-generation important display technology.
In the near future , as the AMQLED technology is becoming full-fledged and widely-used, the AMQLED TV will stand out in the market because of its thin and light figure and high-color saturation. By comparison, quantum dot backlight is not a new display technology, but a way to enhancing the color performance of the LCD technology.
A more mature method is to diffuse the quantum dots in the film and superimpose the film onto the backlight source of a LCD TV. Blue LED is used to excite red light and green light, thereby forming a more pure spectrum. The colors increase by more than 30% when compared with those of the traditional LED TV. The so-called quantum dot TV in the market is actually a LCD TV with quantum dot backlight technology. More accurately, it should be called quantum dot backlight LCD TV.
