The TAP pipeline construction has opened up prospects for building new energy sources in the south of the country.
According to the gas master plan in Albania are two new power plants that can be built in the Korça and Kucova areas near the pipeline route and pumping stations.
Both Korça and Kuçova have previously TEC with mazut, but have been extinguished for decades. The establishment of these two fuel stations comes as an idea at a time when Albania is running an energy production crisis in the Cascade of Drini due to drought and lack of alternative sources.
Vlora TEC is out of order and with the technology it has, the cost of energy production comes out too high. It is also anticipated to be adapted to use natural gas as raw material.
New power plants are foreseen as concessions and to stimulate important investments, the Government's proposal has reached the Assembly that for investments over 100 million euros in energy and with installed power over 2 megawatt, the procedures are accelerated.
The Korca power plant is projected with a power of 200 megawatts and annual consumption will reach up to 125 million cubic meters / cubic meter of gas per year. The same consumption level is also foreseen for the Kuçova TEC.
