On the path from LCD to LED to Microled, I think large screen LED displays will use QMC Blue QD LED as a cost-efficient backlight for either photoluminescent Red and Green QD, or electroluminescent Red and Green, perhaps as the high end. QD LED can be brighter than current phosphor LED and perhaps fewer can cover the backlight area if diffusion methods are used. One extreme possibility would be to have an indirect QD Blue LED mounted to the necessary number of optical fiber threads to the back of every pixel. There are different types of QD LED and different configurations for Displays. OEMs decide.
For smartphones, most think that Microled will be too expensive, but by using a Blue QD Film as the backlight for photoluminescent Red and Green, cost savings over Blue LE Diodes and their manufacturing and transfer problems can be accomplished, especially for the smaller size smartphone screen.
