Sure, happy to share. What you need in order to do a Google search on that is a term called, "thermal efficiency." Thermal efficiency is the rate at which the available energy in a fuel is converted to usable work, with the rest going to heat energy which is usually wasted.
Internal combustion engines typically operate at around 22% thermal efficiency, meaning 22% of the available fuel energy is converted to work while the remaining 78% goes to mostly useless heat which must be removed. In contrast, steam plants typically operate at somewhere around 40% thermal efficiency.
Burning plastic in a power plant would provide more energy at a smaller carbon footprint than converting plastic to a fuel for use in a combustion engine.
