Software Designed to Lock Driver’s Mobile Devices
FleetSafer from Cogosense Technology is software for smartphones and tablets that automatically puts the device in “Safe Mode” while driving. In Safe Mode, a curtain screen blocks access to the keyboard and screen. All notifications and alerts are suppressed, including incoming calls, texts, and emails. "We know drivers want to be connected while driving, but how do we safely give drivers what they want?" noted Doug Patton, senior vice president of engineering at global automotive supplier Denso International America, Inc.
Near-term, however, a lot of work continues upon the issue of how to eliminate or at least reduce driver distractions cause by smart phones and other personalized electronic devices while a vehicle is in operation.
“Employees who use mobile phones or tablets while driving are not only a danger to themselves; they also pose a significant risk and liability to their employer,” he explained, adding that FleetSafer is also equipped with a patent-pending method that automatically places the employee’s mobile device in “safe mode” when driving is sensed that also prevents a driver from evading the “safe mode” while driving, excluding emergency calls.

Watch out for distracted drivers…they are everywhere. Nothing is more threatening to us motorcycle riders than the distracted driver who now commonly occupies our streets, roadways and highways. Driving mobile phone users and habitual texters have become a real menace to all motorcycle riders and cagers alike. 3,477 people were killed and over 421,000 injured in 2015, according to the latest government data.
The distracted driver problem is getting worse in my opinion and this deadly practice must simply, somehow, be stopped.
The technology is available…we just need laws to implement it. I am now convinced that society has no choice but to vote in the mandatory use of this phone scrambling technology less we want distracted driving accidents to continue to wreck the lives of innocent people.
