Does a specie "inherit"?
Receive or be left with (a situation, object, etc.) from a predecessor or former owner.

At the risk of being too Bhawkyen, the term inherit is strictly a human concept based on ownership. Other, newer forms of life will hopefully not replicate this unfortunate trait!
