LOS GATOS, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Roku Inc. (Nasdaq: ROKU) today announced the availability of its first 4K UHD HDR capable hybrid OTA streaming player for Roku Powered™ partners. Telstra is the first Roku Powered licensee to deploy the new 4K HDR hybrid streaming player for its Telstra TV service later this month. By integrating a terrestrial tuner in the 4K HDR streaming player Telstra can offer its customers the best of live TV, catch-up and on demand entertainment.
"Our new 4K HDR hybrid streaming player is ideal for countries where over the air TV is available. It really brings together entertainment sources in a clever way, so consumers can watch live and on demand entertainment with one single remote control," said Andrew Ferrone, vice president of pay TV at Roku.
The Roku Powered licensing program is designed to help operators grow their addressable market and reduce customer churn. Under the program, operators leverage the Roku streaming platform including the Roku OS, Roku Channel Store, and low-cost streaming players to deliver live TV and on-demand services to their customers. In partnership with Roku, operators develop their own streaming player by customizing the home screen, app store, and streaming player for their audiences. Roku provides ongoing software updates to the Roku OS, hosts the app store, and provides application development support and certification services. Today, the Roku Powered program enables operators to deliver streaming services to customers in Australia, Austria, Germany, Italy, Philippines, Republic of Ireland, Spain, South Africa and the United Kingdom.
