Why does my tablet camera show a mirror image?

Some manufacturers decide that this is what users want, but it makes it tricky when you try to show text. There is a trick to fixing it, says Rick Maybury
On most tablets and smartphones the front-facing camera is either fixed or set by default to mirror mode. A few devices have the option to flip the image but manufacturers seem to take the view that this is how most users want it, and what they expect to see, which is fine until you want to use it for text or writing. There are several apps that can flip the image from the camera (Mirror Free, free from Google Play is one example), but these do not work in Skype.
As far as I am aware there is no easy way flip the image on the Hudl whilst using Skype and this applies to most Android devices, unless there is an option in the front camera’s settings menu. Fortunately there is a simple workaround.
Whilst in a Skype call all you have to do is tap the video screen then the camera icon and you can switch to the rear-facing camera, where the sent image will be the right way around.
Yeah, I can see both girls reading that, either before or after their wine 'tasting', and exclaiming.......
