OTTAWA, Oct. 19, 2017 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Calian Group Ltd. (TSX: CGY ) CEO Kevin Ford has again been recognized as a top business leader after receiving the 2017 Ottawa Chamber of Commerce-Ottawa Business Journal award for CEO of the Year.
Ford, who became Calian's President and CEO in April 2015 after previously serving as President of the Business and Technology Services Division, has led the company to reach record revenues and market value.
He has long described his key values as teamwork, integrity and commitment. A true leader, Ford has worked hard to foster a corporate culture where Calian team members come to work happy and healthy, with an attitude for collaboration and high-performance.
The evolution of Calian under Ford's leadership has been marked by growth, strong service offerings and a corporate rebrand as Calian Group Ltd. Recognizing opportunity in the company's diverse business, Ford restructured Calian into five service lines with a focus on growth: Health, IT and Professional Services, Training Services, Systems Engineering and Contract Manufacturing. Since joining Calian Ford has completed five acquisitions. Under his leadership as CEO the company's share price has increased more than 60%.
True to form, Ford isn't relishing the attention.
"While I appreciate this award, especially considering its esteemed list of previous recipients, for me, this award is about the great things we're doing as a team at Calian, and leveraging the great foundation of the previous CEO," said Ford. "We contribute so much to our community and to the world. Our core purpose is to help the world communicate, innovate, lead healthy lives and stay safe. That's why we come to work every day. I look forward to continue setting ambitious goals for this company and working as a team to achieve them."
He added: "This year Calian celebrated its 35th anniversary, and it's amazing what this company has accomplished. I can only expect the 40th will be even bigger, with more to celebrate."
Ford is a community champion whose passion has guided Calian's strong support for charities, military members, veterans and their families. Calian's Military Family Doctor Network has helped match more than 400 military families to family doctors across the country, a challenge for most military families due to new postings and relocations. The company is a partner to many charities including the United Way, the Ottawa Hospital Foundation, Pancreatic Cancer Canada and the Kanata Food Cupboard.
Ford has worked in professional services for over 30 years. He currently sits on the boards of the Canadian Association of Defence and Security Industries, Saegis and the Ottawa Hospital Foundation. He has coached hockey for 20 years, is the proud father of four sons and has been married for 31 years to his wife Marlene.
