NWEA Partners with Pearson to Provide Customized Math, Literacy Instruction through SuccessMaker

Portland, Ore., Oct. 16, 2017 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- NWEA , the not-for-profit education assessment solutions provider, announced a new partnership with Pearson to provide individualized instructional opportunities in math and literacy to students on Pearson’s SuccessMaker digital learning online platform.

Through this joint effort, SuccessMaker’s adaptive course content will be aligned to MAP Growth assessments so teachers can create a unique instructional path for each student based on his or her resulting RIT (Rasch Unit) score. This assessment score serves as an indicator of each student’s learning needs. Aligning content to MAP Growth will inform targeted instruction in SuccessMaker’s interactive, game-like platform that engages learners with rewards and multiple levels of challenge.

“We are excited to partner with NWEA to help students meet their growth goals,” said Lisa Lee, director of product management at Pearson. “Linking MAP Growth and SuccessMaker allows educators to better develop and individualize instruction for each student and be confident that students are on track for success in reading and math.”

A computer adaptive assessment, MAP Growth delivers insights into what students know and are ready to learn next by adjusting to each student’s performance. It pinpoints the specific needs of each student and informs instruction to support student growth and learning. Real-time reports provide educators with actionable, valid, and reliable data to track growth and help every student learn throughout the year.

SuccessMaker is an adaptive digital learning platform where reading and math instruction continually adjust to reflect student responses and guide each learner toward targeted performance goals. SuccessMaker also gives real-time feedback to educators, noting when students will reach key milestones and providing data to support interventions.

With insights from MAP Growth and corresponding RIT scores, SuccessMaker can generate a customized instructional path in math and literacy that is designed to support each student’s success. The approach also replaces SuccessMaker’s initial process for matching students with appropriate learning content, helping educators to leverage MAP Growth’s precise data in new ways and making the process of individualizing instruction more efficient.

“Using MAP Growth and SuccessMaker in tandem not only guides effective learning but also helps teachers support each student’s growth,” said Matt Chapman, CEO of NWEA. “This partnership is a great example of how NWEA is working to harness the power of precise and reliable data to strengthen instruction.”
