New Orleans, LA, Oct. 10, 2017 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- “You could wonder for hours what flowers mean, but for me, their life itself, in all of its happy brilliance. We couldn’t do without flowers. Flowers help you forget life’s tragedies.”-Marc Chagall
Marc Chagall, Russian born rose to artistic maturity in France, and as an early modernist associated with several major artistic styles. His works spoke of love, and he created them in virtually every artistic format, including paintings, book original graphic work and book illustrations. He was a major force in modernism’s “golden age in Paris", synthesizing the art forms of Cubism, Symbolism and Fauvism, which in turn, gave rise to Surrealism. Chagall’s imagery was influenced by Byzantine and Russian iconic painting and folk art, but mixed with his unique sense of love, joy, beauty and sadness. Chagall was an absolute master of color, leading Pablo Picasso to once remark “Chagall will be the only painter left who understands what colour really is”. MLG is proud to exhibit originals, suites and individual prints by Mark Chagall.
“People love mystery, and that is why they love my paintings.”-Salvador Dalí
Salvador Dalí is one of the greatest Surrealist artists. As a skilled draftsman born into a prominent Spanish family in in Catalonia Spain, he was best known for the striking and bizarre images of the unforgettable landscapes of his inner world. Dalí discovered Impressionist art at the age of ten, and by 1927 he was recognized as a genius. MLG’s collection includes wood engravings, lithographs, watercolors and etchings. The largest Dalí painting in history can be seen at MLG in the Forum Shops, Las Vegas.
“The spectacle of the sky overwhelms me, I’m overwhelmed when I see, in an immense sky, the crescent of the moon, or the sun. There, in my pictures, tiny forms in huge empty spaces. Empty spaces, empty horizons, empty plains — everything which is bare has always impressed me”-Joan Miró
Joan Miró was a renowned Spanish painter and sculptor. His work has been interpreted as Surrealist pictorial language-a sandbox for his childlike and subconscious mind where the realm of the memory and imaginative fantasy rule jointly. His works reflected the influence of many different styles, from the pure and brilliant colors used in Fauvism, to cubistic shapes; and from folkloric Catalan art to church frescos. Miro’s beautifully rendered lithograph — both boldly drawn and colored – Eustache from 1975 will be on display in New Orleans for this brief exhibition.
“There are painters who transform the sun to a yellow spot, but there are others who with the help of their art and their intelligence, transform a yellow spot into sun”-Pablo Picasso
Pablo Picasso is considered the greatest painter and the most innovative sculpture of the twentieth century, perhaps of all time. He was the world’s foremost printmaker and his graphic oeuvre spans more than seven decades. His prints have been pulled from metal, stone, wood, linoleum, and even celluloid. Picasso loved women, and his graphic work and styles flowed from his preoccupations of the moment. MLG’s collection of hand-signed linocuts reveal his graphic genius in finding innovative ways to achieve brilliantly colored and richly textured works on paper.
