Climate change poses a myriad of threats to agriculture, including the reduction of agricultural productivity, production stability and negative effects on incomes in areas of the world that already have high levels of food insecurity and scarce means of coping with adverse weather conditions. Agriculture is responsible for 14 percent of global greenhouse gas emissions and consumes 70% of the world’s fresh water. Agriculture has the potential to be part of the solution, through the mitigation of a significant amount of global emissions, and some 70 percent of this mitigation potential could be realized in developing countries.
