The Boston Consulting Group Is Named to Working Mother’s 100 Best Companies List for the Eleventh Time

BOSTON, Sept. 26, 2017 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Working Mother magazine has named The Boston Consulting Group (BCG) one of its “100 Best Companies” for U.S. working mothers for the eleventh time. The 2017 list , published in the current issue, highlights BCG’s progressive inclusion programs, paid family leave policies, and flexible work options.

Working Mother also praised BCG for conducting its own research into topics of diversity and inclusion and engaging senior women. “As part of its work conducting research into women’s issues, this management-consulting firm recently explored the need for businesses to foster inclusion, engage senior women, and offer paid family leave,” the magazine notes. “What it found prompted internal changes, motivating leaders to appoint a director of diversity recruiting, educate managers about unconscious bias, launch mentoring for women partners, and increase paid maternity leave to 16 weeks.”

“Female consultants (no doubt pleased by the changes) have doubled their presence here since 2011,” the magazine added. “The firm pays them well and allows them to adopt flexible career paths, work part-time, and take eight-week leaves of absence.”

The firm’s Apprenticeship in Action (AiA) program was also highlighted by the magazine: “AiA has helped more than 1,000 employees pinpoint more-authentic approaches to leadership, which has prompted a shift in how they view those they work with and manage. This creates a more supportive environment for women, who have increased their numbers in the consulting ranks by 80% over the past five years and now make up 25% of all U.S. leaders.”

As part of the coverage, Working Mother also showcases Elfrun von Koeller, a New York-based partner, as a Working Mother of the Year . Elfrun has served as a valuable role model, balancing outstanding client service in the consumer sector with her focus on mentoring team members, while raising two young daughters in a dual-career household. She also led BCG’s Working Mothers Network, creating a valuable resource and support system for mothers across the North America consulting team throughout different stages of motherhood.

Recently, BCG decided to transform the Working Mothers Network into a more inclusive BCG Families Network platform in order to expand the conversation, culture change, and support network to men and women alike. This reflects a core tenet of BCG’s approach—supporting women by focusing on the whole of BCG, not exclusively women. For instance, Women@BCG recently played a key role in extending paternity leave in North America.

“BCG has been a trailblazing employer for much of its 50-year history. We aim to attract and retain the world’s top talent and value a truly diverse and rich perspective from our employees,” said Alicia Pittman, the new lead for the firm’s Women@BCG program. “We are proud of the commitment we’ve made to offer innovative family leave programs, mentorship programs, and flexible working arrangements.”

Inclusion in Working Mother’s “100 Best Companies” list is the latest in a series of honors that the firm has recently received. Earlier this year, BCG ranked third for the second year in a row on Fortune’s 100 Best Companies to Work For ” list. And Fairygodboss ranked BCG number one in its “ Top 30 Best Companies for Women ” in 2017. It was the highest-ranked company by female employees for job satisfaction and gender equality.
