Distracted driving is no joke. About two months ago, my four year old and I were driving to my fiance's cattle ranch on a two lane country road. There was a sense I had that something bad would happen as everything was too peaceful and serene (even my usually loud four year old was unusually quiet). Then a few minutes later, this black Toyota crosses the center line and slams right into a Prius that was 30 feet ahead of us. Nobody in the Prius seemed to be hurt but the girl in the black Toyota was smashed up against the steering wheel. I don't know and shouldn't speculate as to why she crashed but I would bet it was due to being distracted and not sleepy or fatigued.
I'm an RN so I stopped immediately and tried getting her out to no avail. People behind us were stopping and some called emergency services. She was lucky to survive with the injuries I could see (one of which was a chunk of her right knee missing which I tried distracting her from seeing). Emergency services arrived quickly and were able to get a grip on the scene but it left a lasting impression on my son who still brings it up to this day and is quick to remind us to put his seatbelt on.
This app will serve as a lifesaver that can't be measured as far as how many lives it saves. Like Uber and Lyft - we know they save lives but can't quantify the amount. This isn't as important as the fact that lives will be saved.
