I get one rant per month. aannnnd here we go..
Post# of 1584
Ive written several posts in the past years on why I cant stand the iPhone. Mostly because of their cost and the fact that theyre only used 2 years and then thrown out.
Before you say, "get a better job joey68 and stop complaining".. i could easily buy an iPhone. Thats not the issue here. so hush.
The main reason i cant stand the iPhone is because when investing, especially if youre in debt up to your eyeballs trying to make money in the market, yet own an iPhone.. youre more than likely going to fail. Why? Your priorities are screwed up. its like owning a brand new $50,000 SUV yet you go to bed stressed because you just cant figure out why youre so far in debt. Makes no sense.
In debt + $1000 iPhone = $1,000 more in debt. its not that difficult.
But now... WOW. $1,000.. no, i have to type it out..
ONE THOUSAND DOLLARS FOR THE NEW iPHONE?????????????????????????
To each their own. if you really want to spend that much on a plastic box be my guest. heck, go buy three. one for each hand, and a third 'bathroom buddy' for when youre taking a poo.
but seriously (partially, i have a difficult time being 100% serious)..
this post isnt for the mega rich, those not in debt, those who, in two years, can afford a $1,000 rectangular plastic paperweight (with glass)..
this post is for the struggling, hard working guy and gal who has to either pay their electric bill OR put dinner on the table. its for the college student $70,000 in debt which, chances are, youll never pay off..
its for that person who woke up this morning at 5am to go work for someone else, getting a 30 minute lunch break, yet your boss says, "no time for lunch today" (totally illegal yet happens all the time)..
$1,000 on a phone. You do realize what has to happen next? the next iPhone must cost more. then repeat this forever. $2,000 for the iPhone15?
Invest $1,000 @ .005 = 200,000 shares. sell @ .02 = $4000 = $2250 profit after tax
Buy $1,000 iphone @ $1,000. 2 years later throw it in the trash as e-waste, putting cobalt heavy metals in the ground, poisoning the drinking water, child slave labor in africa to get those metals out of the ground... = $50 towards your next iPhone. BAD INVESTMENT.
Sure, you could argue that many people can afford the iphone. True. This post isnt for you.
You could say Apple doesnt FORCE people to buy a new phone. True..
oh wait.
NOT TRUE.
Technically, your original iPhone still works..

Im not suggesting to keep using the original iPhone as its ridiculously slow, buy my point being Apple discontinues updates MUCH TOO SOON in order to force consumers into buying a new phone.
I applaud apple for making billions. Theyre only doing what the public allows. If there was no demand for a $1,000 iPhone... they wouldnt make it. so technically... its not Apple's fault.
This explains it all...
Quote:
And therein lies the conundrum — ..if you’re Apple, the genius: You want to download Apple’s latest software since that’s what developers are developing apps for, and it comes with new features and important security fixes. But if your phone’s more than a year old, it may slow it down.

... so you toss your working iPhone and buy... a new working iPhone.
and so, to conclude this blabbering ridiculous post.. AAPL is doing what it does best. making products people want. as consumers, we need to keep our priorities straight. as investors, we have an even bigger responsibility.
if youre in the red this year in your investments, in debt up to your eyeballs, and yet are about to go buy a $1,000 iPhone.. i got nothing for ya.
Hey.. you could always buy it with a credit card and go into even more debt.
$1,000... for a fragile, portable computer just slightly too big for your jeans pocket. i have to admit, i shake my head every time i see someone walking with an iPhone in their pocket. its like reliving the Osborne 1 (first 'portable computer'). anyone remember that? its.. just.... wrong.

It's going to be very interesting to read the medical reports in 40 years (i wont be here) connecting this current generation's use of portable devices with extreme cases of carpel tunnel, blindness, hearing loss, brain cancer, lower amounts of gray matter in the brain, ear cancer, cancer in the midsection (due to carrying your phone in your pocket), sleep disorders, and an addiction towards electronic devices. Not to include studies showing the decline in the ability to hold social conversations, depression, and anxiety.
Ive read studies showing the anxiety produced when you temporarily lost your iPhone is stronger than an addiction to cocaine.
-Done.
