Syndication Will Become Mainstream Strategy
More non-mainstream platforms are beginning to show up on comScore’s video index list due to those companies syndicating video. AOL has seen tremendous revenue growth this year (from $10 million to $100 million) due to their video syndication strategy primarily fuelled by their acquisition of 5Min in 2010 which also grew their video library from 30K to 450K (Source: VideoNuze). AOL produces their own content in addition to owning a syndication arm on top of a large network to publish their videos. What this tells us is that company-owned sites and popular platforms should not be the only strategy for publishing video. While not everyone has the ability to buy a syndication company like AOL, investing in a paid media strategy, or partnering with a video syndication company like Preview Networks, will gain crucial audience for online video.
