Proactive vs Prowishing
Ok, so 'prowishing' isnt a real word; although I will contact Merriam-Webster and request the word be added (they denied my request for cray-cray).
Anyways, when you invest, you need to be proactive. Investing should not be like this:
1. Spend money on one stock
2. Hold for all eternity
3. Wish and hope for it to make you a profit
Investing should be like this:
1. Spend money on a stock
2. Buy more when the market indicates and/or
3. Sell when the market indicates and/or
4. Reinvest elsewhere when the market indicates and/or
5. Buy back into your stock at a lower price when the market indicates
Prowishing is theoretically nice. You get to check your stock every day; it gives you something to do; you get to talk to people in online boards.
But when it comes to making capital gains.. its not the best way to do it.
Theres this odd notion that you 'only lose money when you sell'. Not true. Invest $5,000 in a stock that never moves and you lost that money regardless if you hold it for 50 years.
