Gingrich Impressed by 'Most Decisive National Security Speech Since Ronald Reagan'
Newt Gingrich joined Sean Hannity to react to President Trump's address on his strategy in Afghanistan, which Gingrich called "the most decisive national security speech since Ronald Reagan."
In his remarks, Trump outlined his plan, including deploying additional U.S. troops, giving no “arbitrary timetables” for how long troops will remain, ratcheting up pressure on Pakistan to stop harboring militants, and refocusing the mission on “killing terrorists,” not nation-building.
Gingrich said Trump's strategy for Afghanistan is much more direct and focused than any recent president's.
He noted that Trump clearly established some ground rules, including the U.S. commitment to aggressively going after terrorists, and also the need for Afghanistan to step up and carry its fair share of the burden.

Gingrich said that Trump and key members of his national defense team - like Defense Secretary James Mattis and National Security Adviser H.R. McMaster - are committed to sticking by those ground rules.
He added that he was also impressed that Trump has had the courage to select tremendous advisers, listen to them, change his views on Afghanistan over time, and then be honest with the American people about it.
"This was one of the most honest national security speeches of my lifetime," Gingrich said. "And I think that the president deserves enormous credit for the way he approached it, for the way he thought it through, for the precision of what he said."
