Equating monuments, that were largely erected in the ascendancy of the KKK and JIm Crow in the early 20th century and again in the 50's and 60's, with the history of the Confederacy is specious.
Look up the chronology, take more effort than Gingrich did.
The monuments, along with the battle flags, were far less about 'history' than they were about putting the Nigras in their place, reminding them who was 'boss'.
Taking them down, as Nikki Haley did in SC, is NOT 'eliminating' history, it's shining a spotlight on it.
Young people have far more illuminating ways to learn history than watching their elders squabble over monuments. But they are getting a lesson in just how chicken shit some of their elders are.
And no, Washington, Jefferson and Lincoln are in no danger because they helped build the nation, not engage in rebellion to preserve the 'peculiar institution'.
