Omarosa: Being a Conservative Black Woman 'Makes Me a Target'
White House adviser Omarosa Manigault-Newman reacted to the events in Charlottesville, Va., as well as video of her being confronted during a National Association of Black Journalists meeting.
Newman said President Trump acted exactly as he should following the violence in southside Virginia over the weekend, by not shooting from the hip and instead waiting for all the facts to come out.
Trump was criticized for not naming white supremacist groups in his initial reaction, waiting until Monday to criticize them and the Ku Klux Klan.
Newman said President Obama was not criticized when he waited to further specify his statements about white supremacists following the shooting of several black South Carolina churchgoers by a white man.
She said Obama also didn't call out Black Lives Matter after one of their members assassinated several policemen in Texas last year, and was not criticized as Trump has been.
"Our president [Trump] said he condemned the acts. But he did not come out [with a specific statement] until the facts were known," Newman said.
Newman also discussed what she considered aggressive discourse from Ed Gordon of the NABJ, who pressed her on her relationship with Trump.
"The fact that I'm an African-American woman makes me a target," she said, noting most African-American women identify with the Democrats.
Gordon pressed Newman on why she would serve in office with someone like Trump.
She said she was at the meeting to discuss the deaths of her brother a few years ago and her father when she was a young girl.
