General Winfield Scott and General William Jenkins
Post# of 123788
For a number of reasons, this friendship began to weaken and was completely shattered during the Mexican War. First, Scott gave more praise to another soldier than he did Worth during the Battle of Cerro Grande and neither could agree on what to do with Mexico City, Scott wanted it to be under Marshall Law and Worth wanted it to be under Mexican Law.
The final disintegration of this lifelong friendship came when Scott learned that Worth had criticized his generalship under pseudonym. Worth came to hate Scott so much that he even had his son's name legally changed to William Scott Worth.
This bit of trivia is from The Mexican War by Otis A. Singletary and can be found on pages 133 to 136.
