The blue quantum dot is needed in on-chip LED technology to create pure white light. Blue, red, and green together create white light.

In order for quantum dot LEDs to be realized and brought to market, quantum dot manufacturers have to create red, green, and blue quantum dots that can withstand the manufacturing process to make the LED and the lifetime heat load that the LED will see during operation.
QMC's claim to high heat resistance quantum dots, QDX (tested to 260 C) is one hurdle crossed in the path to on-chip quantum dot LEDs.
