Syrian government forces seize the last major Islamic State held town in the central province of Syria.
State media says the army has killed Islamic State militants and destroyed their equipment in the town of Al-Sukhna in the Homs province of Syria.
Officials claim the seizure was part of a multi-tiered advance into eastern areas of the region to combat Islamic State forces.
The town is just 30 miles away from the provincial boundary in the northeast, which is the last major hold out of the jihadist group in the country and a prime target for the Syrian government.
The Islamic State has lost the brunt of its territory in Syria to separate campaigns led by Russia and United States backed coalition forces.
