A battlefield without borders presents a menagerie of challenges. Next week, experts in fighting in what’s been named the fifth domain are gathering in Augusta, Georgia, home of the U.S. Army Cyber Center of Excellence, to discuss these challenges and how to overcome them at TechNet Augusta .
AFCEA International is sponsoring the event, which takes place August 7-11 at the Augusta Marriott at the Convention Center. The conference and exhibition has been designed with input from the Army’s cyber front lines at Fort Gordon and the Center of Excellence. Speakers include Maj. Gen. Garrett S. Yee, USA, director, cybersecurity, Office of the Army (CIO/G6); Maj. Gen. John B. Morrison Jr., USA, commanding general, Fort Gordon and U.S. Army Cyber Center of Excellence; Lt. Gen. Paul E. Funk II, USA, commanding general, III Corps and Fort Hood; and Lt. Gen. Paul M. Nakasone, USA, commanding general, U.S. Army Cyber Command.
TechNet Augusta also will feature TechTalk sessions that will center on subjects such as network physical security shortcomings, threat hunting and securing the battlefield from cyber attacks. Discussions in Engagement Theater sessions will include Cyber Quest 2017, a showcase of three academic research papers that address learning demands and capability gaps. The topics include how to develop the managerial skills cyber workers need.
In addition to issues of broad interest, discussions will include a closer look into specific concerns. For example, experts leading one government procurement roundtable will focus on the elements of a successful prime/subcontractor relationship. And, Maj. Gen. Jennifer Napper, USA (Ret.), group vice president, Department of Defense and Intelligence Agencies, Unisys Federal Systems, will lead an all-female panel discussing cyber priorities, challenges and strategies.
Cybersecurity specialists who need to maintain their certifications are invited to attend the more than 20 sessions that have been approved as continuing education.
Additionally, CompTIA is offering two sessions of a mini-boot camp that is both an introduction to its latest cyber certification, Cyber Security Analyst (CSA+), and the opportunity to win a CSA+ exam voucher. The mini-boot camp is free for all AFCEA members who are active military and government personnel. Separate registration is required.
Attendees also will be able to get a glimpse at tomorrow’s innovations at the Future Leaders Poster Show. Approximately 100 students, primarily in college, will be demonstrating various science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) research projects, including robotics.
