$MJ Look Who's Speaking Out For Marijuana Reform
Post# of 3448
These are just some of the voices speaking out for much-needed changes to cannabis laws:
Congressman Earl Blumenauer:
"I wish my friends on the Rules Committee had taken the time to listen to the stories of veterans and their families about what difference [cannabis] made for people suffering from PTSD, chronic pain and traumatic brain injury. Medical marijuana has helped change their lives, and it is not addictive and doesn’t kill them the way the abuse of opioids has... Now we are not even allowed to vote on it. I think that is incomprehensible. I don’t think it is fair to our veterans."
Congressman Trey Gowdy:
"I don’t understand why it’s a schedule I... I would encourage the powers that be, whoever you need to consult with in the administration, to at least explore whether or not it’s scheduled correctly."
Harris County, Texas District Attorney Kim Ogg:
"In the first six weeks of the program we’ve diverted 576 people [from jail], and the savings is over $1.5 million... Of those 576 people that have been diverted so far, I know that none of them have lost their job because of an arrest for a misdemeanor amount of marijuana. I know that none of them have been turned away from a housing opportunity because of the marijuana conviction. So far, so good on both the human and the fiscal front."
Redman:
"I know it’s going to be legalized throughout the whole world. I believe in that. It will be."
U.S. Sen. Ron Wyden:
"Jeff Sessions can’t cherry-pick on a whim which states' rights he likes and which ones he doesn't. Voters in Oregon and a growing number of states who have chosen to legalize marijuana should not have their votes casually thrown in the trash by this administration."
Willie Nelson:
"[Jeff Sessions should] try heroin and try marijuana and then call me and let me know if he still thinks it's the same thing and one is as bad as the other."
U.S. Sen. Rand Paul:
"I will oppose anybody from the administration or otherwise that wants to interfere with state policy."
