The claim that other ulcerative proctitis drugs are safe and effective -- is FALSE.
Mesalamine was claimed to have an 80% efficacy rate. In reality, it's 42%. There are very serious possible side effects, include nausea, rectal bleeding, jaundice, hair loss, etc.
Contrast that with Brilacidin -- 100% reported quality of life improvement, at least 2/3 had remission, and there are no detectable side effects. Systemic absorption is very low.
And just in case someone makes the claim that corticosteroids are safe and effective, as a poster on one of the Seeking Alpha articles claimed, well, it's simply not true that steroids administered by enema are not systemically absorbed. They are. I won't bother searching for the link again, but anyone who is interested can do so, it will come right up.
