INDIANAPOLIS, July 26, 2017 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Windstream (NASDAQ: WIN ), a leading provider of advanced network communications, today announced a major expansion of its advanced metro fiber network in Indianapolis. Windstream’s expansion will provide the area’s growing business community with world-class fiber and fixed-wireless infrastructure that connects even more local data centers and commercial buildings with Windstream’s high-speed, highly available nationwide fiber network.
“There is a lot to like about Indianapolis – it is a regional bellwether market that has one of the area’s youngest populations, relatively low unemployment and an increasing labor force participation rate,” said Chris Nein, regional president for Windstream. “We’re excited to help support continued growth in Indianapolis through our ambitious expansion project. This will result in a new level of connectivity and network stability for thousands of near-net buildings in the area and will allow us to offer customers an expanded product suite and higher levels of service.”
Windstream’s expansion of its local metro fiber network and the addition of fixed wireless access will benefit Carmel, Fishers, Noblesville, Westfield and Greenwood. It will also connect the company’s national fiber network to major data center complexes and commercial buildings in the Indianapolis area. This expansion will link companies directly to other major and mid-size markets across the country, and it also will enable business customers to utilize the enterprise-class data, voice, network and cloud services that Windstream customers in other major markets use as the foundation of their technology strategy.
One Indianapolis-based organization that will benefit directly from Windstream’s expansion is Hamilton Southeastern School District , the second-largest school district in the Indianapolis metropolitan area that has 2,700 staff members and more than 20,000 students across its 21 schools. HSSD is a current Windstream WAN customer.
“Hamilton Southeastern School District is deeply committed to becoming a world-class school system by exploring, assessing and initiating the highest quality programs for the 21 st century learner and educator,” said Tom Kouns, director of infrastructure technologies. “We are eager to see Windstream help us deliver on this vision by continuing to invest in its network to provide even more capabilities to our community.”
Windstream’s expansion in Indianapolis increases both the footprint of the company’s network and the services that are available to local customers including fixed wireless connectivity, unified communications, managed services, network security, business continuity, network solutions and cloud services -- all provided with the support of a truly local team.
“The investment we are making in Indianapolis is a direct reflection of how important the area’s business community is to our company,” Windstream’s Nein added.
Windstream is expanding local metro fiber networks across the country as part of an initiative that will support customers in the banking, financial services, legal services, education, healthcare, government, hospitality and retail industries, among others. In addition to Indianapolis, Windstream is expanding its metro fiber networks in a number of cities including Charlotte, Detroit, Nashville, Richmond, Little Rock, Atlanta, Chicago, Minneapolis, Philadelphia, Dallas, St. Louis and Cleveland.
