AUSTIN, Texas, July 26, 2017 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Xplore Technologies Corp . (NASDAQ: XPLR ) today announced that it has secured multiple orders for its high performance XSLATE R12 rugged tablet PC part of a new multi-year project with one of the largest telecommunications providers in the United States. The long-time Xplore customer is now equipping its Outdoor Plant Engineers with the Intel®-powered 2 in 1 tablets, office docks and accessories as part of a division-wide mobile technology upgrade that began this month. The XSLATE R12 will replace standard-issue corporate laptops and replicate the paper-based planning workflows that have been used for years. Xplore expects ongoing orders over the next several quarters in support of this project.
“We’ve been working with this customer for many years to define the performance and computing criteria for each of its divisions, from the type of I/O ports required to conduct network tests to the mandated enterprise-level security features,” explained Mark Holleran, president and CEO of Xplore. “In this case, we worked closely with the Outside Plant Engineers to provide a high-performance computing system that has the speed, memory, connectivity and storage of a desktop; the true mobility of a tablet; the resiliency of an inherently rugged device; and the sleek aesthetics that workers want. With the XSLATE R12, they now have the exact mobile tool they need to effectively plan and manage downtown underground projects, highway relocation projects and new facility developments.”
The Windows®-based XSLATE R12 was specifically designed to serve as a complete, and completely secure, mobile office for field-based professionals such as these Outside Plant Engineers, each of whom spend their days in the field liaising with customers and partner organizations to design and execute telecommunication distribution projects. The grab-and-go mobility of the 12.5” rugged tablet provides around-the-clock access to planning data, building codes and guidelines for the various construction projects they support. The best-in-class 800 nit View Anywhere® display also makes it easy to view and interpret large site schematics and construction drawings while at the job site, which aids in quality control. The standard digitizer pen and touch input capabilities facilitate real-time notetaking when walking and working, while the magnetically-stowed, Bluetooth™-connected keyboard can be deployed in a matter of seconds when users need to complete more data-intensive tasks in a notebook-like configuration. The secure docking system also facilitates the tablet’s quick transition into a full desktop configuration with multiple I/O ports when engineers are back in the office.
The XSLATE 12 rugged tablet is available in multiple internal configurations, including a 7th generation Intel® Core™ i7 vPro processor with Windows® 10 and 6th generation Intel Core i5 with Windows 7, 8.1 or Windows 10. Intel PCIe Solid State Drives (SSD) are also available with up to 1TB of memory. It also features more connectivity options than others in its class, including antenna pass-through capabilities, an RJ-45 and True Serial port dongle, and a SlateMate barcode reader and HF RFID reader combo.
This new XSLATE R12 deployment will run concurrently with another multi-year workforce mobility project that was initiated with Construction & Engineering Group at the telecom provider last month. That division is standardizing all field technicians nationwide on the XSLATE B10 fully rugged tablet PC.
