CopperPoint Elects Marc Schmittlein to Board of Directors

PHOENIX, July 18, 2017 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- CopperPoint Mutual Insurance Company announced Marc Schmittlein has been elected to the board of the mutual organization, and Judith Patrick, Ken Kirk, and Ronnie Lopez have been re-elected to the board. CopperPoint’s board of directors manages the strategic direction of the workers’ compensation insurance company. Survey & Ballot Systems, an independent election administrator, conducted the voting process.

Marc Schmittlein is President and CEO of CopperPoint and brings more than 30 years of commercial insurance experience. He was most recently with The Travelers Company as president of its cyber business division and previously as co-president of business insurance. In addition, Schmittlein has deep experience in workers’ compensation and business insurance products; he also is active with nonprofits United Way and Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF).

Ken Kirk has a deeply rooted background in finance and insurance. He was appointed to CopperPoint’s Board of Directors in 2011 and became Chairman of the Board in 2014. His extensive knowledge of the insurance space was instrumental in transitioning CopperPoint from an Arizona state fund to a national mutual insurance company. He is chair of the Audit and Compliance Committee and is a member of the Finance and Investment Committee. He began his career as a CPA with Arthur Andersen & Co. In 1989, he acquired Insurance West in Scottsdale. Kirk merged Insurance West with Brown & Brown Insurance in 1995, and subsequently served as Regional President through 2010. Currently Kirk is founder and owner of Meridian Financial Holdings, a regional insurance brokerage providing insurance products and services to businesses and individual clients and is a Regional President of Broadstreet Partners, a national insurance brokerage operation. Additionally, he is the founding chair of the Arizona chapter of Insurance Industry Charitable Foundation.

Judith Patrick, who has served on the board since 1992 and was Chair from 2009 to 2014, is a principal of R.G. Patrick Land planning and Development in Tucson. From 1973 through 2000 she held a variety of positions in Pima County government including the Board of Supervisors, Central Permits, and Building Codes. She is an active member of the National Association of Corporate Directors (NACD) and the National Association of Mutual Insurance Companies (NAMIC).

Ronnie Lopez has served on the board since 2009; prior to that he has held a variety of high-level positions in the Phoenix political and business community, including chairman of Phoenix International Consultants, president & CEO of nonprofit Chicanos Por La Causa, and chief of staff for former Gov. Bruce Babbitt. He also has served on the boards of Bank of America – Arizona, Security Pacific Bank and The Arizona Bank.
