Never enough money, life stresses, life too compli
Post# of 1584
Although there are many other reasons such as poor investing skills, not saving money, poor buying decisions, etc.. Here are the Top Two external reasons why, i believe, we never seem to have enough money:
Two reasons:
1. Things simply cost too much.
2. Things are too complicated.
Things cost too much..
Our world has turned into, "If it doesnt cost an arm and leg.. its cheap and not worth it". We buy $70 jeans, $120 jackets, $200 sneakers, $50 gizmo to cut onions (its called a 'knife'), $400 vacuum cleaners, $4,000 televisions (gotta have that 4K, right?), $300 for a replacement car key, $800 for a 2-year iPhone contract, $3,500 for a refrigerator (half the food we throw out because we buy too much), and hundreds of dollars on breathable work-out clothes to look good at the gym (try a cotton t-shirt and shorts for $10; you'll survive).
Things are too complicated..
Technology claims to make our lives easier yet our lives are more complicated than ever. You can now buy a battery-operated, thumbprint identification combination lock for $40. Easier? Now we have to spend money on batteries to keep the lock functioning. Now, instead of a mechanical lock which rarely breaks, we have circuits, electronics, solder points which can fail.. all to open a lock... not to mention a standard lock costs $5.
We're forced to buy a brand new iPhone every two years because our perfectly working 'old iPhone' becomes 'obsolete'.
Electronic devices are getting so small and complicated that we have lost the ability to be 'at home tinkerers' and fix it ourselves. Our cars are more 'electronics' than 'moving parts' and cost hundreds of dollars to fix something at a shop which once cost $5 to fix at home.
We feel inadequate because everyone around us is buying organic foods which cost an arm and a leg, while we can only afford non-organic foods. There are two farms down the road from me. One is certified organic, the other is not. I laugh every time i pass them because the non organic farm is on a hill; meaning all the pesticides flow downhill into the organic farm. And is it me or do people really think organic farms arent affected by wind which blows who knows what onto the food. im not saying not to eat organic. Organic farming is much more ethical towards the treatment of animals. I eat it when i can, but im not obsessed with it.
in all, we live in the 21st century with amazing advancements in technology, yet i believe the main driving force today is, "if it doesnt cost a lot.. its cheap".
Try this experiment:
Go find your old flip phone (pre-iPhone days). Take it with you the next time you go out with friends and family and place it on the table or pretend to text on it. Watch how many people point it out, laugh at it, and ask 'what is that?' or 'you still use that?', etc.
its a phone...yet its not 'good enough' anymore. we live in a world filled with expectations of keeping up with everyone else. We're expected to have high phone bills simply because everyone else does. and if you dont, you get questioned why youre not 'keeping up with the times'.
