Otherwise everyone would remember very clearly the moment when they made the 'choice'.
Bisexuals excluded, no one you ever ask if they remember that moment will answer 'sure, I went back and forth and then 'decided'.'
Therefor sexual orientation is no more a choice than is skin color, and not surprisingly is subject to the same discrimination and prejudice as people of color are.
If it were not so evidence would abound of those who have 'prayed the gay away', avoiding social opprobrium being a pretty strong motivation.
Nope, no 'abound'.
'Separate but equal' schools and 'back of the bus' seem bizarre today. So too will it evolve on this subject, for most people.
