History:
Captain Sherwood Bugg (1720-1781) was born in Kent County, VA. He married his wife, Elizabeth Hobson in Virginia in 1752. He later resided at Beech Island, South Carolina. During the Revolution , his home at Beach Island, where his wife nursed the wounded, was often raided by the Tories and the British. Captain Bugg commanded a company in Colonel James Jackson's Georgia Line. He was taken prisoner during the Revolution and taken to a prison ship at the mouth of the Savannah River. Near the close of the war he was released. Starved and sick, he managed to get home and died a few days later. He is buried in Augusta, GA. In 1786 his widow obtained a grant of land in Franklin Co., GA for his service in the Revolution.
