Of course, there is NO reason that those numbers couldn't be reported every single day, instead of twice a month....
except that it would make it harder for the criminals to do their "cover short, immediately re-short" trick that makes it possible for them to hide, because of the T+3 trading (trades don't settle on the day they're entered).
Anyway, I agree, shorts are in trouble now and they know it.... as evidenced by huge volume today.
