1 billion Apple devices are in active use around the world
Thanks in part to the Apple Watch and Apple TV

Apple announced a new company milestone today during its first-quarter earnings results: the total number of active Apple devices has surpassed 1 billion. Granted, Apple has shipped far more than a billion devices in the past; the company sold its billionth iOS device back in November 2014. But the active number suggests at least 1 billion devices — from the Apple Watch and Mac to the iPad and iPhone — are in regular use, communicating with the App Store and checking in with iCloud
"The growth of our services business accelerated during the quarter to produce record results, and our installed base recently crossed a major milestone of one billion active devices," wrote CEO Tim Cook in a statement. The company's "other products" category, which includes the newly revamped Apple TV and the Apple Watch, saw the best growth this past quarter with a 62 percent year-over-year jump in sales to $4.3 billion.
APPLE'S "OTHER DEVICES" CATEGORY GREW 62 PERCENT YEAR OVER YEAR
The iPhone remains the crux of Apple's business. The company sold 74.78 million iPhones in Q1 2016, by far the largest contributor to its $18.4 billion in profit on sales of $75.9 billion. That marks the most profitable quarter of any single public corporation in history. However, Apple's second-quarter forecast spells out a stutter in iPhone sales for the first time, and the company's predictions include its first year-over-year revenue decline in 13 years. All the more reason for Apple to find new iOS products to sell consumers to keep its active install base over 1 billion.
