I agree that in some other park his home run total may have been a bit less but I'm not sure that his record should be tainted in any way because of that. Let's not forget that Ruth was also a left hander and the necessary distance for a ball to carry would have been roughly the same for both men. I think the main cause for his one spectacular year was that he and Mantle both got into "the groove" and the edge just simply played out in Roger's favor.
