In a speech at the "People's Summit" convention in Illinois, Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) called on his supporters to take over the Democratic Party.
Sanders said the current model and strategy of the Democratic Party is "an absolute failure."
"The Democratic Party needs fundamental change," he said.

He called on his supporters to move the party toward "open[ing] its doors to working people and young people... who are prepared to fight for social and economic justice."
Former Secret Service Agent Dan Bongino said that either way, the party has a ridiculous platform.
"Give us more of your money... your health care stinks so we'll take care of it," Bongino said.
He said that Sanders' mantra of social justice means nothing to middle America, where jobs are needed to put food on their tables.
"These people [in Sanders' movement] don't care about that," he said.
