Rep. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) is calling on Republican congressional leaders to cancel the scheduled August recess to continue work on tax reform, health care and other GOP priorities.
DeSantis, a member of the House Freedom Caucus, explained on Fox Business Network today that there are only about 30 legislative days until that scheduled August recess, the Republicans have a sizable agenda.
"There's nothing written in stone that you've got to take five weeks in August and early September," DeSantis said. "So, my view would be we've got to make the most of our opportunities now."
He added that the American people elected Trump to fulfill his campaign promises, and they won't exactly be understanding if Congress stalls on his signature pieces of legislation.
As for disagreements within the Republican Party, DeSantis said robust debate is good for the party.
He said the most important thing is that they follow through on their promises and make sure their governance matches their campaign rhetoric
