Dr. Michael Lebby to discuss global market trends in fiber optic communication for datacenters, high-performance computing, and telecommunications as input to build the 1st global Integrated Photonics System Roadmap.
LONGMONT, Colo., June 12, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Lightwave Logic, Inc. (OTCQB: LWLG), a technology company focused on the development of Next Generation Photonic Devices and Non-Linear Optical Polymer Materials Systems for applications in high-speed fiber-optic data communications and telecommunications, announced today that Lightwave Logic's CEO, Dr. Michael Lebby, will be promoting polymer PICs at the World Technology Mapping Forum in the Netherlands on June 14, 2017.

The forum, which has attracted photonic industry and trade association participants globally, is being held to create the world's first International Photonic Systems Roadmap. Dr. Lebby will also participate in the fiber communications technical working group and focus his contributions towards the evolution of photonic PIC technologies with respect to product volumes, specifications, cost, performance, power, and functionality over the next decade.
When completed and finalized, the first International Photonic Systems Roadmap is expected to draw attention to key technology platforms and key technical metrics that will be the main vehicles for photonic PICs over the next decade. Today, the main incumbent technology is Indium Phosphide (InP), with new entrants such as Silicon Photonics (SiP), Dielectric Photonics (DP), and more recently Lightwave Logic's Polymer Photonics (PP) technology platform. The roadmap is expected to review state-of-the-art in photonic platform testing, packaging, assembly, design, substrates and PIC platforms.
Dr. Lebby has been involved in a number of photonic roadmaps over the past 2 decades and contributed heavily to Optoelectronic Industry Development Association's (OIDA) first set of photonic roadmaps in the early 1990s. He then assisted International Electronics Manufacturing Initiative ( iNEMI ) in their photonics roadmap in the late 1990s, and followed this work with integrated photonics roadmaps looking out 10 years while heading OIDA in the late 2000s. He was recently the driver of University of Southern California's (USC) integrated photonics roadmap initiative as part of the integrated photonics competition on Manufacturing Institutes funded by Federal Government in 2015.
Dr. Lebby commented, "Given the incredible technology advancement that the Lightwave Logic team has made over the past few years, it is now time for the world to recognize that polymer photonics--in particular polymer integrated photonics (Polymer PICs) are a critical component to the photonics roadmap going forward. This will be especially true for Polymer PICs that enable 100Gbps, 400Gbps performance and beyond."
