As the anxious president self-destructs via social media, CBS, NBC, ABC, and Fox networks are all planning live coverage of James Comey's congressional testimony.
Brian Stelter of CNN reported:
The worst case scenario is coming true for Trump. The FBI Director that he fired, and may have had conversations with that will prove his interference in the Russia investigation is publicly testifying in front of the Senate, and it will be carried by all four broadcast networks.
Senior White House advisers are admitting that the Comey testimony is why Trump is ranting like crazy on Twitter. The White House also acknowledges that they are fighting for their political lives.
Not since Clinton/Lewinsky has the country seen this degree of coverage for a presidential scandal. After turning a blind eye to Russia during the campaign, the mainstream press is taking the story seriously enough that they are all going to bump their regular programming so that the former FBI Director will be in the national spotlight.
Donald Trump did all of this to himself. James Comey wouldn’t be testifying, and there wouldn’t be anything close to this level of interest if Trump would not have fired him.
The President tried to cover his tracks by firing the FBI Director, and now the entire country will be able to tune in and see what Comey has to say.
The Comey firestorm is a mess of Trump’s own creation that has the potential to destroy his presidency.
