Some thoughts on Solterra Renewable Technologies (

Today's decision not to participate in the Paris Climate Accord (PCA) will have negative effects on the US taking leadership in the development of renewable energy (RE).
1. the decision means the US will not aim to meet goals for RE and so will make less effort and progress.
2. the decision gives justification to reduce the DOE research budget severely, and to reduce its Sunshot effort. Funding for grants will be reduced. DOE will need to rely more on CRADA from the private sector to fund specific research.
3. the 3 million jobs now in the US solar industry are in danger for many reasons. US manufacturers wanting to export RE components will face tariffs from EU due to non-participation in the PCA. The US may raise import tariffs on solar components, raising the price to american consumers. Higher prices and reduced demands will lead to job layoffs.
4. China has made a major committment to RE, and especially solar. They will take the leadership role in developing solar. Already China and Germany have had discussions on more cooperation. Europe has a long record of solar energy research, including DSSC, a solar film similar to QDSC. China will help fund EU research in this area, speeding development.
5. QMC has been silent on SRT. Given QMC's stated commitment to developing a QD display product first, it may be waiting until that is accomplished before turning attention to Solterra QDSC development. Initial funding could be self-generated from revenues and the new funding.
