Denser face Plates, Lower Power solutions, Signals will need to travel further and Faster and Cheaper
Solutions:
Just bring the single mode fiber through the face plate and attach directly to the PIC.
Power, results already achieved by Lightwave when they took an earlier version of their polymers and tested it in a competitors device it only 2.2 volts to operate at 1550nm 30-35 Gb/sec. That is almost the equivalent of four 10Gb/sec, inorganic, lithium niobate modulators which would require 12-16 volts to move the same amount of information.
Signals need to travel Further; Single mode light travels further, when Corning and Intel were focusing on Multimode because it was easy (Big Pipe), Lightwave remained focused on Single mode (Little Pipe). Folks I called that a couple years back. Well the industry is now admitting that Single mode is the solution.
Faster, Lightwave Logics Polymer flinches and returns to normal in a Fempto Second (a femtosecond is to a second as a second is to about 31.71 million years) now that is fast.
I’ll make a prediction, Lightwaves modulators will initially start of at 50% of the market rate and their price would be reduced a total 80% as production ramps up. $10 Market, $5 Gig Initial Entry By Lightwave, $1 Gig Complete Market dominance, Mark My Words.
Plastic that is Compatible with Silicon and InP.
And this is but a Single Device in a Market with ultimately 100’s of uses and Many Brick walls that simply cannot be solved with today’s materials. Folks they need a solution.
So when will the next Shoe Drop, Geez I wonder what the next big announcement will be, the conference is in 2 weeks, I don’t want to set expectations too high, just saying.
After 13 years I have never been more encouraged.
