With Article About Marine Corps' 'Toxic Masculinity'
Website Vox marked Memorial Day with an article about the Marine Corps' "toxic masculinity" problem.
In the piece, author Alex Ward claimed the Marine Corps has a “well-earned reputation for being a fraternity that often marginalizes or mistreats female troops.”
Pointing to the Marines' nude photo sharing scandal, Ward argued that before the Marine Corps can effectively help maintain order in the world, it needs to maintain order among its own ranks.
"So as the service tries to win battles around the world, the most important fight may be the one closest to home," Ward wrote. "The battle for the soul of the Marine Corps."
Guy Benson joined guest host Sandra Smith on "The Story" to react to the article and the fact that it was posted on Memorial Day, the holiday for remembering those who died while serving in the country's armed forces.
He said he doesn't have a problem with Vox criticizing the Marine Corps or any institution, but he did take issue with the timing.
"We, in America, have one day out of 365 every year where we set it aside to remember with gratitude the people who have died in our military defending our freedom," Benson said. "To tee up this story for this day, I understand why people are really objecting."
