The reason that I do not subscribe to the "this is all normal, the short volume is just market makers doing their job to keep trades running smoothly" -- is that in the past I would sit there with an order in AT THE OFFER, for several minutes without being filled. If the market maker were creating an efficient market, I would have been filled within some seconds, not LITERALLY minutes (I watched the clock, and it was over 5 minutes one time).
And one of the days that this happened, the daily FINRA number was in the 70's. So why didn't they short the stock and fill me, if they were creating efficient markets for everyone else that day?
We don't know exactly how to interpret the numbers. But I appreciate seeing the statistic in case a pattern emerges. I have seen one pattern beginning to come out, based on a PM someone sent me, and I think that there is meaningful data here when we learn whether the theory I'm now watching is correct.
