The Implosion Continues As CNN Confirms Reporting That Trump Obstructed Russia Investigation

The breaking news tonight from The Washington Post that Donald Trump sought to quash the Russia investigation has now been confirmed by CNN, adding fuel to the fire on another night of explosive developments in this story.

According to the report from CNN, “multiple” officials in the U.S. government say that Trump did, in fact, call two high-ranking figures in the intelligence community to ask them to publicly deny collusion between Russia and his presidential campaign.

More from the report:

President Donald Trump called two top intelligence community figures to request that they deny in public any evidence of collusion between his campaign and the Russian government during the 2016 election, multiple current and former US officials with knowledge tell CNN.

Trump’s requests to Director of National Intelligence Dan Coats and National Security Agency Director Adm. Michael Rogers came after then-FBI Director James Comey publicly revealed before the House intelligence committee on March 20 that the FBI had an investigation into collusion to influence the 2016 election.

Both Coats and Rogers were uncomfortable with the nature of the President’s request and refused to comply, the sources told CNN.

CNN’s report comes just hours after The Washington Post published a similar report alleging the same thing – that Trump tried to stop the investigation into his campaign’s ties to Russia during the 2016 campaign by reaching out to national security officials.

In response to the CNN report, the White House all but admitted guilt by neither confirming nor denying the story and again focusing on the leaks instead of the actual information being reported.

“The White House does not confirm or deny unsubstantiated claims based on illegal leaks from anonymous individuals,” a spokesperson told CNN. “The President will continue to focus on his agenda that he was elected to pursue by the American people.”

Not only does the first sentence of the White House statement indicate that the administration hasn’t come up with a coherent response to the barrage of bombshell Russia reporting, but the second sentence proves that they are out of touch with where America really is – a majority of the country voted against this president and oppose his disastrous agenda.

The White House is in utter collapse and the outstanding reporting on the Russia cover-up is happening too quickly for them to keep up.
