Classy & Conservative': Melania's Style Praised in Saudi Arabia

First Lady Melania Trump is receiving rave reviews in Saudi Arabia for her fashion choices.

The first lady - who is accompanying her husband, President Donald Trump, on his first overseas trip as commander-in-chief - was praised by the Saudi Arabian press for her "classy and conservative" style, despite foregoing the customary headscarf.

Saudi women and most female visitors are typically required to wear a loose, black robe known as an abaya in public. Most women in Saudi Arabia also cover their hair and face with a veil.

Although she decided to forego the robe and headwear, the first lady dressed conservatively in long pants and dresses as she arrived in the kingdom and attended several events.

On Sunday, she stepped off Air Force One in a black jumpsuit from British designer Stella McCartney, which closely resembled an abaya.

Her spokeswoman Stephanie Grisham told CNN it was not a coincidence.

"If you look at her style, it's still very much her and her style of dress but being sensitive to the place and host nation for sure," Grisham said.

While the local press appears to be in favor of the first lady's fashion choices, some critics pointed out that President Trump once criticized former First Lady Michelle Obama for declining to wear a headscarf in Saudi Arabia.
