E. Coli is far from just a cause of food borne disease. It's also a major factor in urinary tract infections (UTI) and septicemia and can take days to identify and determine antibiotic sensitivity. This update is stunning, with elevated levels of E. coli (as in advanced stages of infection) detectable and identifiable in as little as 30 minutes. Antibiotic sensitivity in 6 hours. Holy cow!
This must be a limited abstract for the ASM presentation, that would be the only reason for the researchers and methods to be redacted until June so as to not violate rules of presentation.
I believe a trial will still need to be done to please those who will be users but this crosses so many disciplines for utility that there should be huge interest at the ASM. That translates into use
