I had like a hundred million shares of a company called Wialan Technologies (like most OTC stocks, it went nowhere and it was my single worse trade...lesson learned) a couple years ago when it was undergoing a rebranding and ticker change, and now that you mention the 5-letter extension symbol I recall that they also had to use that system. The process was very straightforward for stockholders. Basically just had to wait until the ticker changed, but trading wasn't really affected.
